Leah Hitchcock Ybarra of Michon designs unique jewelry using a variety of materials including silver, gemstones, pearls, resin, and recycled and found objects. Her work has been featured at stores and galleries in the bay area and as far away as Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Inspiration for her designs comes from nature, architecture, art, and fashion. Leah's design process comes from working with her materials directly. Her metalwork is often hand-sculpted without a final product in mind, and then embellished with stones and pearls to create a very organic but elegant look. When making her three dimensional collage pendants with resin, she often lets a piece sit for weeks between pouring layers of resin until she finds the perfect item to complete the look of the piece. These items range from broken beads and metal scraps to objects found in the street, like rusty hardware bits and twigs.
